Imagine this. It’s 2 a.m. and you have worked the entire day and you now have 25 hours to ‘do as you please’. Oh yes, and you also have a car at your disposal. What would you do?
Most people would probably use the car to head straight home, park it in their garage, crawl into their bed and spend it the next 12 hours fast asleep. Sounds logical, unless you’re a chef at the restaurant &samhoud places. Because if you were, you would go out to eat of course. In Switzerland.
A round trip to Switzerland for a meal is precisely what Dennis, Nigel and Mike did that weekend. Whatever would possess you to drive 10 hours, eat 20 courses in 5 hours and then spend another 10 hours driving back? The eyes of Dennis Huwae, chef at &samhoud places, sparkle as he talks about their undertaking. “If you’re going to drive that far, it won’t be to grab a bite at MacDonald’s. We met a chef in Switzerland who is a friend of ours and visited his three-star restaurant. Some people may find this ridiculous, but it was really more than worth it. Everything was perfect: our beautiful surroundings, wonderful food and splendid wine. We also had a great time together and have rarely laughed so much. But why would we do such a thing? Because we stand for intensity. This is where our heart lies. We give our all when we work, but also likewise when we don’t. We can truly derive intense enjoyment from something like this. We would do exactly the same thing tonight. Thanks to this trip we have more energy than ever before. We have learned that you have to go far if you want something. And from time to time you even have to cross your own borders.”
